manufacturing
It starts with a grain of sand
The basic ingredients in the production of glass are always the same, approx. 60% quartz sand, approx. 20% lime-dolomite mixture and approx. 20% a soda-sulphate mixture. As early as 650 years before Christ, there was the following saying that describes glass production: “ Take 60 parts sand, 180 parts ash from sea plants, 5 parts chalk – and you get glass . ”
The so-called glass melt is created from these ingredients at around 1600 degrees Celsius. The prerequisite for every further processing step.
Here you can see mechanical production of glass, how it produces glass products in a fantastic way at low cost and on a massive scale. Beautiful and good for getting an idea - but not comparable to what we make!

The secret of Czech glass
The Czech history of glassmaking dates back to the 13th century and is full of stories and legends. One of them tells of a glassmaker who searched deep in the forest for the purest spring water. There he met a forest fairy who told him the secret of Czech glass. She explained to him how the local sands and minerals made the glass crystal clear and pure. Before she disappeared, she gave him a sparkling gemstone, which was used in every piece of glass from then on.
