Kahla Porcelain - Made in Germany since 1844

The KAHLA brand

In 2019, the brand celebrated a double anniversary: 175 years of company history have passed since it was founded in 1844 by Christian Eckardt and 25 years since the company was re-established after reunification. Customers from 60 countries value the multifunctional KAHLA products for the household, hotel and catering sectors as well as the individual promotional porcelain for corporate customers.

family business

25 years ago, the traditional manufacturer was on the verge of collapse after being taken over by a trust company and going bankrupt. But then an ex-Rosenthal manager came along with a vision: Günther Raithel rebuilt the company as KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH. From the very beginning, he took a consistent course of renewal - not only for the company itself, but also for the entire German table culture. With designer Barbara Schmidt at his side, Raithel dusted off the traditional material porcelain and made it fit for the new millennium. KAHLA has since been awarded more than 100 international design prizes for innovative product design and intelligent and ecological concepts. But the German porcelain industry has been under price pressure for decades. Cheap suppliers from Asia are flooding the market. In March 2020, KAHLA filed for bankruptcy again.

Son Holger Raithel had met Daniel Jeschonowski at a trade fair. KAHLA wanted to produce cups for his company Senator. But instead of maintaining the supplier relationship, Daniel Jeschonowski took over KAHLA completely, so that the company was passed down from family to family. Daniel Jeschonowski has been managing partner of the company since September 2020, which now produces award-winning porcelain - Made in Germany - under the name Porzellanmanufaktur Kahla/Thüringen GmbH.

Made in Germany

Our high added value in Germany and our many years of production know-how ensure you high-quality and long-lasting products.

Since its re-establishment after reunification, KAHLA has invested a good 30 million euros in innovative production technologies to protect the environment: This means that production is resource-efficient and CO2 emissions are reduced. As part of the "KAHLA pro Öko" strategy, the company uses its own wells and saves millions of liters of drinking water by treating industrial water. The company's own photovoltaic system generates ecological electricity from solar energy, which is used for porcelain production.

With the "KAHLA pro Öko" strategy, the company is clearly committed to sustainability. Nature and the environment should be preserved for future generations and the company should cultivate a conscious use of natural resources. A green quality seal guarantees that the porcelain is tested for harmful substances and made from natural raw materials. It is manufactured fairly and socially in Germany.

All production steps take place at the Kahla site in Thuringia, so that no unnecessary transport is required and the associated emissions are avoided.

Humanity and the Future in View

Humanity and the future in focus The "pro eco" sustainability strategy means even more: With it, KAHLA is committed to social working conditions. The company integrates people with disabilities and provides practical help for seniors and promotes the compatibility of family and work. An important point is training and promoting young talent at the Kahla site, including through university partnerships.
