The production
The choice of materials
Purity and quality as the most important basis for glass
The production of SmacoGlas boxes begins with quartz sand, soda and lime. For our boxes we use soda-lime glass, which impresses with its clarity and strength and is also lighter than many other types of glass.
Soda-lime glass is a soft glass and is more sensitive than borosilicate glass, but it is fully recyclable, which is an important factor for us when we consider that we want to avoid plastic because it is not largely non-recyclable.
The Blow Molding Process – Technical Masterpiece
How our glass cold cuts box is made
While many glass products can be machined in one-piece molds due to their conical shape, the SmacoGlas boxes require a sophisticated blow-pressing process in a four-part mold. This process is much more complex and sets our boxes apart from the crowd. The hot glass is poured into a 2-part mold, and a 2-part stamp presses the glass into the desired shape.
The SmacoGlas boxes have a completely vertical shape with no inclination, which makes manufacturing particularly challenging. When the stamp is removed, a vacuum would form that could damage the mold. Therefore, the stamp is carefully disassembled during the manufacturing process, as is the lower mold. This precise and meticulous process requires a high level of technical skill and patience.

The complex disassembly of the form creates a characteristic seam on two of the four curved sides. This seam is not only proof of the elaborate handwork, but also a sign of the high quality and technical sophistication that goes into every SmacoGlas box. It makes each box a unique work of art.
After the molding process, each SmacoGlas box is hand finished to remove any imperfections and perfect the surface. This step requires the utmost precision and attention to detail. Our craftsmen give each box the final touches and ensure that it meets the highest quality standards.
